Roger Hansson
DRUMMER
“I am inspired by drummers like Neil Peart of Rush and Jeff Porcaro of Toto”
Roger Hansson grew up in Märsta, a suburb of Stockholm. His older brother played in a band – and this inspired Roger to start his musical career. He began to attend and listen in on their rehearsals and he got to try the drums a couple of times. When the regular drummer got sick, Roger jumped in.
Roger’s musical influences are to be found primarily within hard rock and symphonic rock; bands like Deep Purple, Rush, Saga, Marillion and Toto. Despite being a hard rock nerd, Roger does have a broader taste in music – for genres such as Swedish danceband, synth and fusion.
“The success with GRACE opened a lot of doors; we got to record music in professional studios and perform on the same stages as our musical heroes”
— Roger Hansson
Post GRACE in 1989, Roger felt the need to develop himself. Together with Jan Persson he went to the Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles. There they gained a lot of experience, playing with senior musicians and famous bands.
Back in Sweden Roger began to focus on the Swedish danceband scene and toured a lot over the next decade. He then moved on towards cover bands and started playing with the band “Överdrag”, with whom he toured all over Sweden. In addition, they backtracked famous artists like Markoolio, Staffan Hellstrand, Tommy Nilsson and Uno Svenningsson. Since 2017 Roger is playing with the coverband “Full koll”.
